Marius Brits

Marius Brits was born in 1956 in Pretoria and raised in the small town of Lydenburg, Mpumalanga. His childhood was rich with exploration—hunting for goldfields, visiting Boer War sites, collecting rocks, and reading voraciously. Books like Die Uile, Trompie, and later, the works of Herman Charles Bosman, inspired his lifelong love of stories. Although drawn to archaeology, Marius pursued brewing instead, working in Germany in the early 1980s. His daughter, Sarah, was born there and now lives between Germany and South Africa.

In 2002, Marius returned to Lydenburg, where he became a registered cultural tour guide in Mpumalanga and Kruger National Park. He also ran a second-hand bookshop and tourism business for 17 years. His travels to India and Nepal deepened his interest in Buddhism, shamanism, and alternative worldviews. A writing course in the late 1990s led to his first self-published book, Broken Mirror Fallen Leaves (2003). He continues to guide, write, and study archaeology and Eastern philosophy.
