Steve Murray
Steve Murray is an aviation author based in Perth, Western Australia, with roots in Rhodesia where his early experiences living and working sparked a lifelong passion for flight. His career in aviation spans over four decades and forms the foundation of his writing, which captures the wonder, discipline, and thrill of flying.
He began writing in the late 1990s, publishing his first children’s book Hunty the Jet Fighter in 1998, inspired by the Hawker Hunter jet fighter he purchased in 1995. Since then, he has authored several children’s books in Australia, delighting young readers with the adventures of Hunty. His most recent work, The Joy of Flying, is a memoir that reflects on his career and the joy he found in the skies.
Though not originally intending to become an author or illustrator, Steve has been deeply moved by the enthusiastic response to his books. His readers’ appreciation continues to motivate him as he works on new stories, including the upcoming Hunty Rescues the Dolphins.
Now retired, Steve enjoys homeschooling his daughter, painting, exercising, and watching the restoration of his beloved Hawker Hunter at a local museum. His writing is infused with the pleasure he derived from aviation and serves as an invitation for others to share in that joy.
